The challenge
The Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon is an exhilarating test of stamina, strength and fitness through some of the most spectacular and historic areas of the Scottish Highlands.
The course:
- Swim - 1.5k (0.8 miles) to North side of Loch Tay
- Run/Walk - seven Munro's encompassing the Lawers and Ptarmigan Ridges to Morenish (approx 24k or 15 miles)
- Kayak - 11k (7 miles) back to Ardtalnaig
- Cycle - around Loch Tay 54k (34 miles)
- Slice a melon - in two with a sword to stop the clock
- And after the event enjoy a massage - from quadrathlon sports physio and enjoy a hearty feast on the shores of Loch Tay in the evening.

Q - Can we register on Saturday morning?
A - No
Q - Will we receive a map of the route?
A - An OS Land Ranger map will be sent out prior to the event. This is one map per team. Spare copies will not be available on the day, so please ensure you have received the map and that you bring it with you.
Q - Where can we stay the night before the Challenge?
A - We provide space for camping. There are some bed & breakfasts available in the area and hotels in Kenmore and Killin.
Q - What do we need for camping?
A - There is limited space in a sleep tent, otherwise we recommend you bring your own tent, a sleeping bag, roll mat and warm clothing. We will provide toilets, water and food on Saturday evening and Sunday brunch.
Q - What services will be provided?
A - We will provide luxury loos, canvas, food, refreshments and entertainment from Saturday pm through to Sunday lunch.
Q - Will there be showers?
A - We provide portable shower facilities for participants on site. Showers are not available to supporters.
Q - Do we have to have support teams?
A - No. This event is unsupported. We do, however, recommend you bring family/friends along to take part in the atmosphere and evening entertainment.
Q - What happens if we drop out on route?
A - If a participant becomes injured or for any reason wishes to drop out of the event, we will ensure you are picked up and transported back to the event hub as soon as possible. We do recommend you train well for the event in order to avoid this!
Q - What will be provided by the organisers at the main checkpoints and at the finish?
A - Friday night — Pasta party, food provided from 7pm
Saturday breakfast, participants provide own food
After swim phase: Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cake and High 5 energy drink
Reservoir Waterstop after munro 6: Jacket potatoes, sandwiches, soup, cake, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, High 5 energy drink, massage.
Kayak transition: Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soup, cake, crisps, High5 energy drink.
Killin: Fish and Chips and High5 energy drink
Kenmore: Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soup, High5 energy drink
Finish: Hog roast and desert from 6pm. Soup and drinks from 4pm.
Q - Are the compulsory kit list items per team or individual?
A - Some items are compulsory for individuals and others per team. Please see the kit list section on the website for further information. You will also receive a paper copy of the kit list when you register. PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE CONSULTED THE LIST BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. FAILUE TO PASS THE KIT CHECK WILL RESULT IN WITHDRAWAL FROM THE EVENT.

Q - Do I need to navigate? And how good does my navigation need to be?
A - Part of the challenge of the Quadrathlon is the navigation, whilst we provide some markers and will ensure no one is lost, we ask that participants are able to navigate using a compass and map or GPS and map.
Q - How much does it cost for my family/friends to attend the event?
A - £50 for the whole weekend including pasta party on Friday night, hog roast on Saturday evening, ceilidh and brunch on Sunday. £20 for Saturday evening only.
Q - What food is provided for supporters?
A - Pasta on Friday night, dinner on Saturday evening and Sunday brunch. No food is provided during the day on Saturday.
Q - Where can I purchase mountain strobes?
A - Most good outdoor shops sell mountain strobes either on their own or as part of a survival kit.
Q - What shoes do I need for the hill phase?
A - Fell or trail shoes are best. Walking boots are fine but will slow you down.
Q - Can I use the same waterproofs for the hill and kayak phase
A - Yes. The waterproofs you carry with you during the hill phase can be used on the kayak phase.
Q - What do I need to wear for the kayak phase?
A - Waterproof jacket and trousers
Q - What wetsuit is needed for the swim phase, can I hire a wetsuit?
A - A triathlon wetsuit is recommended. The loch is cold. We do not provide wetsuits; you need to bring your own.
Q - Are there cut-offs?
A - Yes, please see the website for more details. For health and safety reasons all cut offs must be strictly adhered to by participants.
Q - How much water do I need to carry for the hill phase?
A - Three litres
Q - Do I need to bring a swim cap?
A - No. We provide a swim cap at registration, it is compulsory for each participant to wear the swim cap.
Q - Do we have to stay together as a team?
A - Yes you have to stay together as a team. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.
Q - Will I be tested on my navigation skills?
A - Yes at registration we will conducting navigation test which you have to pass.
Q - Will there be a kit check?
A - Yes, at registration on Friday. A compulsory kit check will be conducted with each participant. Failure to supply full kit will result in withdrawing form the event.
Q - Is the safety brief compulsory?
A - Yes. Safety brief will be held at the event hub at Kindrochit House 8pm Friday 10th July. YOU MUST LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE SAFETY BRIEF.
Q - Can I hire a bike for the event?
A - Yes. You can hire a road racing bike for £45 from Mark Schimidsu at Wheels Cycles on 01877 331100 or mark@wheelscyclingcentre.com. Road racers are recommended.

We will cover training, preparation, 15 minute DVD of the route, support team information and a general walk through/ talk through of the plan on the day. We can also send out a DVD to any one who requests a copy.
